Muhammad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and president-general of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), has congratulated Nigerian Muslims for observing the Ramadan fasting gradually coming to an end.

The JNI in a statement issued by its Director-General, Khalid Aliyu, on Saturday in Kaduna, said the Ramadan fasting would end either on May 1 or May 2 and would be followed by Eid-el-Fitr festivities.

Mr Aliyu urged Muslims to “sustain the virtuous acts they had acquired and to remain self-disciplined, dedicated and ever God-fearing in all their endeavours.”

Meanwhile, in two separate statements, the police commands in Oyo and Yobe states have assured residents of adequate security before, during, and after the Workers’ Day and the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo, Ngozi Onadeko, in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, said comprehensive security provisions had been emplaced to ensure tranquillity in the state.

She said that area commanders, divisional police officers, and other heads of department had been mandated to lead, supervise, and ensure adequate deployment of personnel to various areas of security interest.

“In the event of distress call or dissemination of useful information, citizens are advised to call the Police Control Room Numbers, 08081768614, 07055495413 and 615 (Toll Free) from Oyo State Security Trust Fund,” she said.

In Yobe, the Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement, advised residents to be security conscious, especially during the festive period.

He urged stakeholders such as the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Keke Napep Association, Traders, and Market Associations, among others, to assist security agents to safeguard the lives and property of residents.
