Ekiti: Court remands man in prison custody for murder

The magistrate ordered the defendant’s remand in prison custody pending the issuance of legal advice.

The Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, ordered the detention in Ado-Ekiti prison of a 45-year-old man, Tajudeen Olaleye, over alleged murder.

The defendant is prosecuteď on a charge of murder.

The Police prosecutor, Yomi Osuolale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 10 in Otun-Ekiti.

He said the defendant allegedly murdered a resident, Rasaki Taibat, during a fight.

Mr Osuolale said there was a fight between the defendant and someone in the neighbourhood. The deceased tried to mediate, but in the process, the defendant stabbed her with a bottle, which led to her death.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened section 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant to the correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the director of public prosecution (DPP).

The defendant’s plea was not taken.

The magistrate, Olubunmi Bamidele, ordered the defendant’s remand in prison custody pending the issuance of legal advice.

She adjourned the case till April 25 for mention.
