On Thursday, an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court remanded two men for alleged cases of rape, involving underaged girls.

The suspects will be behind bars during the forthcoming Christmas festivities.

Adewale Tunde, 30, and Anthony Peter, 25, were ordered remanded in a Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old and 16-year-old girls, respectively.

The Magistrate, Franca Olaiya, who did not take the plea of Mr Tunde ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Mrs Olaiya adjourned the case to December 29, for the DPP’s advice.

The prosecutor, Insp Olumide Bamigbade, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 17, at Ado-Ekiti.

Mr Bamigbade said that the defendant defiled his neighbour’s daughter.

He said the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

The magistrate did not also take Mr Peter’s plea, preferring him remanded, pending legal advice from the DPP.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 17 in Ado-Ekiti.

Mr Adejare said that the defendant had carnal knowledge of the 16-year-old girl without her consent.

He said the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

Mrs Olaiya adjourned the case until December 29, for mention.
