Suspected thugs have disrupted the ongoing Ekiti governorship election at polling unit 01 of Ilasa, in Ekiti East Local Government Area of the state.

The thugs, who are allegedly working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), were said to have vandalised ballot boxes and also tore ballot papers.

Peoples Gazette learned that the incident led to chaos and pandemonium at the venue, as voters in the queue ran for safety. Ekiti East has a total of 61,357 voters.

A source told The Gazette that the polling unit was one of the strongholds of the opposition Action Democratic Party (ADP).

Efforts to get the immediate reactions of the police to the incident proved abortive.
