The Director-General, National Senior Citizens Centre, Dr Emem Omokaro, on Monday said the contribution of aged women in boosting rural agriculture is unquantifiable across the nation.

Ms Omokaro, in a congratulatory message to Nigerian women in commemoration of International Women’s Day, said women would continue to play key roles in contributing their quota in agricultural activities in Nigeria.

The message was contained in a statement to journalists in Abuja by the head of corporate communications of the NSCC, Omini Oden.

Celebrating the resilient spirit of Nigerian women in overcoming challenges, Ms Omokaro urged the women folk to identify and recognise their challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

She said, “In line with the 2024 theme ‘Invest in women, Accelerated Progress,’ the NSCC initiated a transformational programme for aged women called “The Grandmothers Arise for Good.’’

”This is an ongoing project in the NSCC that shows how to invest and inspire inclusion of all women sub-population categories in the development agenda.

“The Grandmothers Arise for Good initiative is a strategic sector-wide project of the NSCC because it harnesses the resilience and industry of women, especially in income generating interests of older women in rural and suburban communities into brand work schemes with value chain.’’

She advocated increased participation of women in the affairs of the country.

She stated, “Women have greater roles to play in mainstreaming gender-related issues, healthcare and entrepreneurial development.’’

She, therefore, called for respect and uplift of older women in all places as encapsulated in the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s Administration
