Emirates Airlines, the United Arab Emirates’ biggest air carrier, has announced that it plans to launch collectible and utility-based non-fungible tokens (NFTs) aimed at improving customer interaction and revenues.
On Thursday, Emirates announced that it would be launching its first NFT projects in the next few months. The airline also said it would repurpose its pavilion at Dubai’s Expo for metaverse, NFTs, and Web3 projects.
“The Emirates Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will be repurposed into a centre for innovation, including the development of the airline’s metaverse and NFT projects,” the airline said in a statement.
Ahmed Al Maktoum, the Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airlines, said that the digital economic developments in the country, especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, have been supported by regulations and policies from the government bodies.
The airline also plans to hire global talent for working on future projects, pioneering in adopting new technologies.
Last week, the United Arab Emirates used virtual reality technology to help train security officials in the metaverse.
