The Enugu governorship election petition tribunal is poised to deliver its judgment at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, judiciary sources told Peoples Gazette.

The tribunal finds itself at the epicentre of one of the most bustling post-election legal disputes, with 46 petitions on its docket.

These petitions encompass a spectrum of disputes, comprising eight from the gubernatorial elections and an additional 38 originating from the state assembly elections.

Among the contentious matters that have gripped the attention of both legal pundits and the general public is the authenticity of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate presented by Peter Mbah, who was declared the winner of the election.

The opposition Labour Party had alleged that Mr Mbah failed to fulfil his mandatory youth service obligations before assuming a political post in 2003.

The broader issues surrounding Mr Mbah’s election victory also encompass fierce debates regarding the validity of the votes accrued during the electoral process. Furthermore, allegations of extensive electoral malpractice and rigging have cast a shadow over the outcome, particularly in Owo and Ugbawka.
