World champions Manchester City moved to third place on the Premier League table after a dominating 2-0 win over bottom side Sheffield United at Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.

Again, City’s free-scoring striker missed out on the game due to injury, but midfielder Rodri and young forward Julian Alvarez were there to get the goals for Pep Guardiola’s side in the one-sided match, finishing the game with a massive 82 per ball possession.

Fourteen minutes into the game, Rodri opened the scoring for City courtesy of an assist from Phil Foden, who was bundled off the ball in the midfield but fortunately made its way to Rodri.

He drove the ball to the bottom-left corner, not far away from the 18-yard box, before putting a low shot past the goalkeeper to put City upfront.

Meanwhile, a minute after the half-hour mark on the clock, Alvarez doubled the advantage for the hosts, which was enough to secure the maximum points for them. It was from an assist from Foden again.

England International deceived the visitors’ players by acting like he was about to play a shot but instead squared the ball to Alvarez, who calmly converted it.

With a game in hand, Manchester City moved to third place with 40 points, tied on the same points with Arsenal, who will visit Fulham in their own game on Sunday.

At Kenilworth Road, Chelsea remained 10th on the table despite surviving a late scare to secure a 3-2 away win over Luton Town, with Cole Palmer scoring a brace in the game.

In the 12th minute, Palmer opened the scoring for Chelsea with a ferocious shot after Issa Kabore played a saved effort from goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski into the former Manchester City player’s path.

Noni Madueke doubled the advantage for the visitors in the 37th minute after the English youngster latched a left-footed shot inside the 18-yard box. In the 70th minute, Palmer got his second in the game to make it 3-0 for Chelsea.

Surprisingly, Luton Town would go on to score twice in the 80th and 87th minutes of the game courtesy of goals from former Chelsea player Ross Barkley and Elijah Adebayo to reduce the deficit for the visitors.
