Chelsea leapfrogged Manchester United to seventh on the Premier League table after the Blues thrashed West Ham United 5-0, with Nicolas Jackson scoring twice at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The victory took Chelsea’s tally to 54 points, tied with Manchester United, who face Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park on Monday night. The Blues are ahead due to a better goal difference of 11 compared to United’s.

In the 15th minute, Cole Palmer scored his 21st league goal of the season, curling Nicolas Jackson’s assist into the bottom-left corner of the net to put Chelsea ahead against the Hammers.

Right on the half-hour mark, Conor Gallagher doubled Chelsea’s lead. The England international capitalised on a rebound ball from Noni Madueke’s play inside the box and fired a powerful shot into the net.

Madueke made it 3-0 in the 36th minute. The Nigerian-born winger headed home a header assist from Thiago Silva, and the hosts went into the halftime break with a comfortable lead.

Jackson scored twice in the second half — first in the 48th minute when the Senegalese international tapped in a selfless pass from Madueke to make it 4-0.

He scored again in the 80th minute to seal the emphatic win for Chelsea.

It was an unlucky day for forward Jarrod Bowen, who came so close to scoring twice for West Ham in the game. His efforts on goal struck the goalpost twice in the first half, and the Hammers’ time in West London ended in shambles.
