The police on Tuesday arraigned Peter Esuola, 54, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly obtaining N1 million from an accommodation seeker on the pretence of renting a mini flat to him.

Mr Esuola, an estate agent who resides in Ogba, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy, obtaining by pretences and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Evelyn Ehieniua, told the court that the offences were committed on January 17 at Adekanbi Street, Aguda Ogba, Lagos.

Mr Ehieniua said that the defendant obtained N1 million from the complainant, Martins Kingsley, on the pretence of renting a mini-flat to him.

The prosecutor said that since then, efforts made by the complainant to get a refund for his money had failed as the accommodation is not available.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The magistrate, M. A. Adegbaye, granted the defendant N500, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Mr Adegbaye adjourned the case until February 29 for mention.
