Ex-convict bags one-month jail term for robbing motorist

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced one Lucky John to one month imprisonment in the Keffi Correctional Centre for theft and criminal conspiracy.
The Magistrate, Farida Ibrahim, sentenced John without an option of fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes and to be of good behaviour.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Samuel Emmanuel, told the court that the complainant, Mohammed Sani, reported the matter at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, on August 25.
Mr Emmanuel said that while the complainant was in his car, waiting for the traffic light sign, John and Dan Musa, who is at large, stole his Samsung phone valued at N490,000 at Wuse 2, off Parakou street.
He added that John and Dan Musa also stole the complainant’s wallet containing $900 and N2,000 cash.
The prosecution further said Musa escaped with the items and fraudulently withdrew N680, 000 from the complainant’s Gtbank account via his phone while John was arrested on the spot.
He said that John was an ex-convict and had been sentenced for crime in the past.
John pleaded guilty and begged for mercy, saying that he stole because he needed money for transportation to return to his village.
