The public prosecutor’s office in Slovakia has brought tax fraud charges against former president Andrej Kiska.

The spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday.

The politician had wrongly claimed more than €150,000 ($162,500) costs through his family company KTAG, which ran a travel agency.

These were allegedly actually incurred in his presidential campaign in 2013 and 2014.

Mr Kiska repeatedly rejected the allegations, saying it was part of a “political smear campaign’’ against him.

The 59-year-old liberal-conservative politician headed the EU and NATO member states from June 2014 to June 2019.
