Portuguese youngster Fabio Vieira has joined Arsenal from FC Porto, in a deal reported to have cost the Gunners £34.2 million.

In a statement on their website on Tuesday, Arsenal announced that Vieira has joined the club on a “long term contract”.

“I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent,” Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta said, reacting to the signing of Vieira.

“Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play. We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season,” the statement added.

Vieira, 22, contributed to FC Porto’s title victory last season, netting six goals and 14 assists in 27 Primeira Liga appearances.

He becomes Arsenal’s third signing this summer, following Matt Turner and Brazilian forward Marquinhos.
