Family announces activist Tony Uranta’s burial arrangements

The Niger Delta chieftain would be laid to rest in the Opobo Kingdom in Rivers State.

The family of prominent activist Tony Uranta has fixed May 27 for his burial, six months after his death.

According to the burial arrangements released on Wednesday, the Niger Delta chieftain would be laid to rest in the Opobo Kingdom in Rivers State.

Michael Uranta, the immediate younger brother of the deceased, said the burial would begin with a solidarity walk/ civil society rally at 9:00 a.m. on May 21 at Omole Phase one, Lagos.

He said that May 22 was fixed for a candlelight procession by 6:00 p.m. at Omole, Phase one in Lagos.

He said the service of songs would hold on May 24 at House on the Rock Cathedral Headquarters, Lagos State, at 5:00 p.m.

According to him, another service of songs will hold at the House on the Rock Church, Abacha Road, in Port Harcourt, the deceased’s home state, on May 26.

Mr Uranta said the remains of the activist would leave Port Harcourt at 7:00 a.m. on May 27 to the deceased compound in Queenstown, Opobo Kingdom, for a lie-in-state funeral service and interment.

He said that May 29 was scheduled for the thanksgiving service at St. John’s Anglican Church, Queenstown Parish, at 10:00 a.m.

The late activist, who died last year at 67, was a member of the Presidential Committee on National Dialogue and the Federal Government’s Technical Committee on Niger Delta.
