The federal government, under the National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro Pocket Initiatives, has distributed farm inputs to 1,500 dry season farmers in Bauchi state.

Daniel Abarshi, the state coordinator, federal ministry of agriculture and food security, confirmed this in an interview with journalists on Friday in Bauchi.

Mr Abarshi said the distribution of essential farm inputs to dry season farmers across the 20 local government areas was aimed at bolstering agricultural productivity.

“The distribution of farm inputs was conducted across five different centres within the state, ensuring equitable access to resources.

“Each farmer received two bags of NPK fertiliser, one bag of urea fertiliser; one bottle of herbicide; one bottle pesticide and organic fertiliser, provided free of charge to all 1,500 farmers beneficiaries,” he said.

According to him, this allocation of resources is designed to enhance soil fertility, mitigate pest and weed pressures, and promote sustainable agricultural practices among the farmers.

The state coordinator said that the state government officials oversaw the meticulous execution of the distribution.

He said that coordinated efforts were directed toward ensuring smooth logistics to ensure even distribution of the inputs to farmers in all the local government areas.

Mr Abarshi said that improved access to fertilisers would enhance crop yields, particularly during the dry season, when natural soil nutrients were depleted.

“While provision of pesticides and herbicides helps farmers combat pests and weeds effectively, safeguarding their crops and yields.

“The inclusion of organic fertiliser promotes sustainable farming practices, aligning with environmental conservation efforts,” he said.
