A fire broke out at an Athens refugees camp on Wednesday morning, with two people affected with respiratory problems.

Citing fire officials, Greek media reported that the two persons were taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire at the Eleonas camp was not initially known.

Several structures were reportedly burnt.

Eleonas was considered a showcase camp at the height of the refugee crisis in 2015 and 2016 and was regularly visited by European politicians.

Presently, about 1,200 refugees and migrants live at the camp, which can accommodate 1,900 persons.
