Flamingos secure U-17 World Cup ticket with 2-0 win over Liberia

Nigeria’s Under 17 female football team, the Flamingos, on Friday, secured the ticket to represent the country at the 2024 FIFA under 17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic.

Flamingos defeated their Liberian counterpart 2-0 in their second-leg match at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

Chidi Harmony scored the first goal for Nigeria three minutes into the game.

Flamingos fought well but they were unable to score more goals in the first half.

The Liberian girls fought back but they could not utilise their chances.

On the resumption of the second half, Harmony scored again for Flamingos in the 62nd-minute to make the score 2-0.

Flamingos had and expectational performance in all their games in their qualifying series.

They had a 12-0 aggregate win (6-0 in first and second leg) against Central African Republic.

They had 7-1 aggregate against Burkina Faso (1-1 in the first leg and 6-0 in the second match).

In the third round, they defeated Liberia 4-1 in Monrovia in the final round, first-leg encounter, and 6-1 aggregate on the second leg in Abuja.

This year’s FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup finals will be held in the Dominican Republic’s cities of Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo from Oct. 16 to Nov. 3.
