The National Orientation Agency (NOA) and Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) have warned the public against building on water channels and dumping wastes in drains to curtail disasters from floods.

The director of NOA in Plateau, Keneng Pam-Hworo, warned during an advocacy visit to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Jos North.

Ms Pam-Hworo recalled that NiMET earlier predicted high flooding during the year and warned against farming and building in flood-prone areas.

Similarly, the coordinator of NIMET in Plateau, Raliya Umar, said the advocacy visit was to intimate the association about the impending flood.

Ms Umar urged the association to inform its members of the need to keep their drains clean and desist from building on water channels.

CAN chairman for Jos North, Polycarp Gana, represented by the association’s vice chairman, Charles Duruson, assured the two agencies of passing the message to their members.
