The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Oyo has confirmed the death of 15 persons in Friday’s accident on Eruwa-Lanlate road in the Ibarapa East Local Government area of the state.

It was earlier reported that no fewer than 20 persons were burnt to death in the accident, which occurred on the road at about 2:05 p.m. on Friday.

Confirming the actual number of deaths to journalists on Saturday, the FRSC sector commander, Joshua Adekanye, said 15 people died in the accident.

Mr Adekanye said the accident, which involved two vehicles, occurred at Maya junction.

The sector commander said the two vehicles – a Toyota Sienna Bus and Toyota Hiace – had head-on collision resulting in the fatal accident.

Mr Adekanye said all the 15 persons involved in the accident were burnt to death and attributed the cause to a speed violation to avoid a pothole.

The commander said their families immediately recovered the bodies of six of those killed, while the remaining nine were deposited at General Hospital Eruwa.

He said the rescue was done by the community and witnessed by the chairman, Eruwa Local Government Area, Gbenga Obalowo.
