The corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has condemned the unprovoked attacks and molestation of corps operatives on the highways and vowed to prosecute errant drivers.

The FRSC boss said this during his maiden address to the staff on Wednesday in Abuja.

Mr Mohammed said that FRSC remained the nation’s lead agency on road traffic administration and safety management, empowered to arrest and prosecute erring motorists.

According to him, the founding fathers worked tirelessly to entrench the ideals embedded in the corps, creating a solid legacy that needed to be brought back to life.

“This will be to mitigate what we are experiencing today, such as mob actions, staff knockdown, insults and assaults on our personnel while on duty, among others.

“The worst is knocking down our patrol operatives, which is unacceptable,” he said.

Mr Mohammed said that such actions would no longer be tolerated. He said that his predecessor, Dauda Ali-Biu, initiated a partnership with the Nigerian Bar Association, promising to build on it and continue prosecuting erring drivers involved in such acts.

President Bola Tinubu approved the appointment of Mr Mohammed as the FRSC chief on May 20.

Mr Mohammed was the zonal commanding officer in charge of Abuja and Niger.
