Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Monday in Ibadan inaugurated a 12-man governing board for the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, operating in the state.

The governor has restated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the state is safe and habitable for all and sundry.

He pledged to continually support the corps with logistics, health insurance, training and re-training, as these would strengthen their synergy with other security agencies in the state.

Mr Makinde added that his government would continue to make provision for all their needs to enhance operations in nipping criminal activities in the bud across the state.

“While I commend the efforts of the Amotekun Corps in combating crime in the state, I also urge the newly-trained members to fully utilise what they have learnt,” one tenant said.

He further urged them to maintain smoother relationships with conventional security agencies, such as police and Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Speaking on behalf of the board, its chairman, a retired assistant Inspector-General of Police, Sikiru Akande, assured the governor and people of the state of a return to the good times.

He said the Amotekun corps would continue to provide adequate security in every nook and cranny of the state.

The special adviser on security to the governor, retired CP Fatai Owoseni, and executive assistant on security to the governor, retired CP Sunday Odukoya, are statutory members of the board.
