Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa has approved N10,000 as a wage award to civil servants and local government workers in the state.

Sagir Musa, the commissioner for information, youths, sport and culture, made this known to journalists on Friday in Dutse.

Mr Musa said the money was approved by the state executive council at its meeting on Friday.

He said the gesture, aimed at cushioning the impact of subsidy removal, was considered after the council had deliberated on a memo presented by the state head of civil service, Muhammad Dagacire, for the payment of salary awards to civil servants.

“The Council has deliberated on a Memorandum presented by the State Head of Civil Service for payment of Salary Awards to Jigawa State Civil Servants.

“After its deliberations, the council approved the sum of N10,000 to each civil servant in the state for three months, effective from January 2024, as a Salary Award to Jigawa State Civil Servants at both state and local government levels.

“This is pending when a new national minimum wage is expected to have been signed into law and other palliatives,” he said.
