Gov. Sanwo-Olu congratulates LASU best graduating student with 5.0 CGPA

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has congratulated Aminat Yusuf, the best graduating student from the faculty of law, Lagos State University (LASU). 

Ms Yusuf graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0, being the first undergraduate to accomplish such incredible academic performance in the last 40 years.

In a series of tweets on Friday, Mr Sanwo-Olu applauded Ms Yusuf for her dedication and hard work toward achieving the remarkable feast.

The governor hailed other 282 students who achieved first-class honours in their different fields in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions.

“In Lagos, we value hardwork, dedication and excellence. Congratulations to Aminat Yusuf, a law student at Lagos State University (LASU), for achieving a remarkable feat, being the first undergraduate in 40 years to obtain a CGPA of 5.0. This is truly commendable! Your dedication and hard work have paid off,” Mr Sanwo-Olu tweeted. 

“I am also thrilled to hear about the outstanding academic achievements of 282 students who achieved first-class honours in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 sessions.

“As a state, we will continue to reward and support academic excellence.” 

On Wednesday, Ms Yusuf was announced by Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the vice-chancellor of the institution as the best graduating student in 2021/2022 academic session while Feyisayo Lopez from the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, emerged as the best for the 2020/2021 session with a 4.91 CGPA.

Ms Yusuf, who graduated from the faculty of law was rewarded with a N500,000 cash prize for her outstanding academic performance. 

In 2020, during the 24th convocation of LASU, Mr Sanwo-Olu awarded a N5 million scholarship to a 22-year-old, Oladimeji Shotunde, for his graduate education.

Mr Shotunde was rewarded for being the overall best student of 2018/2019 academic session with a 4.95 CGPA.
