The supporters of ex-Governor Segun Oni of Ekiti have rejected the result of the governorship primary election conducted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, accusing Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom of irregularities.

Mr Oni, who polled 330 votes in the election was defeated in the election by Bisi Kolawole, an anointed candidate of former Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Mr Udom of Akwa-Ibom, who presided over the election, had declared Mr Kolawole the winner of the election, having polled 671 votes to beat Mr Oni.

But Mr Oni’s supporters rejected the results in a statement signed by Yemi Arokodare, the director-general of his campaign organisation, alleging that members were disenchanted by the process.

Mr Arokodare alleged that the delegates’ register was mutilated and many delegates’ names were missing from the register.

According to him, 32 automatic delegates accredited were not given tags and allowed to vote.

Mr Arokodare said Mr Udom also allegedly threatened to arrest and lock all of these delegates if any of them should come into the hall.

He also accused Mr Udom of deliberately allowing Mr Fayose to sit in the hall even after he had voted, against the rules earlier announced.

According to him, Mr Udom allowed Mr Fayose’s aides to sit in the hall purposely to intimidate other delegates.

He concluded that the primary was not free and fair.
