Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu Monday met with the warring chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Aninri local government area.

The peace meeting, convened in line with his peace initiative, had engendered reconciliation among the members.

Disputes erupted during the PDP monthly council meeting over the weekend at Ndeaboh, leaving several party members wounded in the ensuing fracas.

The meeting, involving the faction led by the LGA chairman, Benneth Ajah, and the one led by the lawmaker representing Aninri Constituency in the House of Assembly, Chinedu Okwu, provided the platform for the participants to table their grievances before the governor.

Mr Ugwuanyi urged them to embrace peace and work together as brothers for the party’s progress, the council area and the state.

In their separate comments, the warring members pledged to abide by the governor’s decision at the meeting to resolve the issues amicably.

They also pledged to abide by the governor’s directives regarding the PDP primaries in the state and the 2023 general elections.

They thanked the governor for his commitment and resilience in resolving issues in the council area and apologised to him for the disagreement that ensued at the weekend.

They assured him that the unfortunate incident would not happen again. As part of the resolutions at the meeting, Mr Ugwuanyi directed that non-PDP members should be allowed at party meetings.

He further directed that the suspension of party executives in Oduma Ward IV be lifted. The governor said Victor Okoro remained the chairman of the party in the area.

He urged the chieftains to support Mr Okoro to develop the area and promote peace and unity among the people.
