Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano state has launched the 2024 polio eradication campaign in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.

Mr Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating polio and other childhood diseases.

He said that the campaign aimed to vaccinate all the eligible children in the state.

Mr Yusuf said that it would also strengthen their immune systems and curb the virus’s spread, particularly since Kano was one of Nigeria’s 18 high-risk states.

He expressed gratitude to the development partners, religious leaders, and the Emirate Councils for their ongoing support.

His deputy, Aminu  Gwarzo, praised the governor’s dedication to healthcare, while the health commissioner, Dr Abubakar Labaran, emphasised the need for more efforts to address low immunisation coverage and hard-to-reach communities.

The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanui, represented by Bashir Muhammad Dankadai, stressed the importance of a robust public awareness campaign to protect future generations.
