The Federal Capital Territory Ministerial Task Force on City Sanitation has closed the Jikwoyi Phase II junction, which constitutes a gridlock on the busy road.

Ikharo Attah, an aide to the FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello, who disclosed this on Tuesday, said that the measure would ease traffic flow on the axis.

“Sealing of the junction and planning to pull down the illegal structures was meant to ease movement of vehicles and the residents that ply the route,” he stated. “Sealing of the Jikwoyi Phase II today is one of the measures that we have taken to ease the free flow of traffic on the axis.”

He added that the task force had inspected the Karu-Jikwoyi road two weeks ago in line with the minister’s directives to decongest the gridlock that starts from Nyanya, Karu Jikwoyi – Kpegyi linking Karsh town due to some unconventional activities.

He explained that FCT Administration was keen on ending the chaotic situation on the road by removing all the illegal structures built on the road shoulders on Karu-Jikwoyi road.

“We have identified the causes of the traffic gridlock on Karu-Jikwoyi road. We will ensure that all the illegal structures built on the road shoulders are pulled down,” he assured.

Mr Attah stressed that the exercise was not meant to infringe pain on the people rather, “it is meant to address the logjam that people have been experiencing and complaining about.”

He also mentioned that all the vehicles that plied the road or plying the route should go to the Celestial Church junction to make a U-turn, saying “that the area is better for the U-turn.”
