Group trains 170 Yobe retirees in fish farming
The Yobe State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources said it has partnered a non-governmental Hafsum Agricultural Enterprises to train 170 retirees in fish farming.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ali Goniri, stated this at a one-day capacity building training for the retirees in Damaturu on Thursday.
He said that the training was under the state’s Agricultural Revitalisation Programme initiated by Gov Mai Mala Buni.
Mr Goniri said that more programmes were lined up to enhance fish farming in the state to create job opportunities and increase income levels of the people.
“The present administration of Gov. Mai Mala Buni will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the agricultural sector is revitalised for enhanced economic activities in the state,” the commissioner said.
In his remarks, Dr Musa Kollere, the ministry’s permanent secretary, said that Yobe had huge potential for aquaculture, considering the numerous rivers existing across the state.
He called on the participants to pay attention to the training session and embrace fish farming to earn a living.
Each of the participants was given 100 fingerlings, feeds, plastic fish pond, among others, as a starter pack.
