CNN’s Brian Stelter will be leaving the news company following the cancellation of Mr Stelter’s long-running segment, “Reliable Sources”.

On Thursday, a spokesman for the company said Reliable Sources’ last edition would be on August 21.

“Stelter came to CNN from The New York Times as the nation’s top media reporter. He departs CNN an impeccable broadcaster,” said Amy Entelis, CNN’s executive vice president for talent and content development. “We are proud of what Brian and his team accomplished over the years, and we’re confident their impact and influence will long outlive the show.”

The show has aired for about three decades since its pilot in 1992 and its cancellation comes as the first major rescheduling moves made by Chris Licht, the new chairman of CNN, who took over this spring after Discovery merged with AT&T’s WarnerMedia.

Mr Licht plans to revamp some of the network’s programming, including the time slot left open by former reporter Chris Cuomo.

A spokesman from CNN told The New York Times that the change was part of CNN’s “refreshed Sunday lineup,” which will present fresh programmes including “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace.”

Mr Stelter said that he was grateful for the last nine years at CNN and thankful to viewers who tuned in.

“It was a rare privilege to lead a weekly show focused on the press at a time when it has never been more consequential,” Mr Stelter said. “I’ll have more to say on Sunday.”

Mr Stelter was a media reporter at The New York Times before joining CNN as a chief media correspondent and host of Reliable Sources in 2013.
