An agent, Adebayo Gbenga, was on Wednesday docked at a Grade 1 Area Court, Karu, Abuja, for allegedly stealing properties worth N10 million.

The police charged Gbenga, 36, for theft.

Mr Gbenga, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecution counsel, Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant left his building located at Pianko Junction Karshi-Orozo road, in care of the defendant as an agent and travelled out of the country.

Mr Osho said that in the process, the defendant dishonestly entered the building and stole a screwing machine, television set, high file system and a double door fridge, a microwave and water dispenser.

He said that the defendant also stole a blender, air conditioner, barbecue machine, D.J equipment, three decoders, a Play Station, carpet, W.C, three pressure machines, all the wires in the house and restaurant equipment.

Other items he said the defendant stole included three phones, two generators, sound light fittings, anti-mosquito device, water boiler, children toy bouncer, adding that all items were valued at N10 million.

The prosecutor said that during the police investigation, one pair of shoes, battery to the screwing machine, blanket and pillow case belonging to the complainant were found in his possession during a search at his apartment.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of the Penal Code.

The judge, Umar Mayana, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N5 million with two reasonable sureties.

Mr Mayana said that N200,000 must be deposited at the court as part of the bail bond.

He ordered that one of the sureties must be a title holder and the other must submit his or her statement of account to the court registry and residential address verified by the court and police personnel.

The judge adjourned the case until March 31, for further hearing.
