A human rights official, Ibrahim Fada, was docked in a Shari’a court sitting at Rigasa, Kaduna, for alleged breach of trust and cheating.

Mr Fada, who resides in Rigasa, denied the allegations.

Earlier, the complainant, Halima Abdulaziz, told the court that she approached the defendant to intervene in the dissolution of her daughter’s marriage.

“My daughter married a village man and did not have peace in her matrimonial home. This situation forced us to seek divorce.

“The husband demanded we pay N140,000 in exchange for the divorce; we sold her furniture and designated the human rights official to collect the money,” she said.

She explained that the defendant told them he would hand over the money to her daughter’s husband and get the divorce letter.

Ms Abdulaziz stated that he failed to hand over the money, and all efforts made by her to get the money from him failed.

She prayed the court to assist her in recovering the N145,000 and N30,000 for travelling expenses.

The judge, Salisu Abubakar-Tureta, asked the complainant to produce her witnesses. He adjourned the matter until August 15 for the complainant to present her witnesses.
