A Customary Court in Jikwoyi, Abuja, on Thursday, heard how Abubakar Ayuba abandoned his wife, Liatu, and left for South Africa.

Mrs Ayuba told the court that she was tired of their 7-year-old marriage, saying she has “not experienced love the way a wife should.”

“He stopped eating my food almost immediately after I married him. He doesn’t show me affection,” she said of her husband. “The worst of it all is that he abandoned me and the children and travelled to South Africa.”

The Judge, Labaran Gusau, consequently dissolved the marriage on the grounds of lack of love and peace in the union.

“It is on record that both parties have consented to the dissolution of the marriage and the petitioner asked for the custody of the children of the marriage which the respondent did not object to.

“In view of this, the court has no other choice than to grant the petitioner’s prayers of divorce and custody of the children since her husband did not object.

“The marriage is hereby dissolved and custody of children of the marriage granted to the petitioner. The petitioner is to allow the children to spend weekends and holidays with the respondent.

“The respondent is also ordered to give N50,000 to the petitioner for the monthly upkeep of the children,” Mr Labaran ruled.
