Olubankole Wellington alias Banky W says he will not defend past atrocities of his political party, Peoples Democratic Party, or its members.

“I’m not here to defend everything bad that anybody in the history of PDP has ever done. That’s not my job. I will not do that,” Mr Wellington, a House of Reps candidate, said.

“I’m here to reform it. To build a bridge into mainstream politics, starting from Lagos and Eti-Osa and say listen guys we can do this thing. We must engage wirh Nigeria where it is not where we want it to be.”

Mr Wellington, made this statement in an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday.

The PDP has faced enduring criticisms over what critics term gross underdevelopment and corruption when it presided over the country from 1999 till 2015.

The musician turned politician first contested for the Eti-Osa House of Representatives seat in 2019 under the Modern Democratic Party (MDP) but was defeated.

Earlier in April, he defected from MDP to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in preparation to contest a second time for the Lagos Eti-Osa House of Representatives seat.
