Ibadan: Fire razes shops in Ogunpa market

Several shops were razed by fire on Monday night at Iya Maryam Adebara Complex in the Ogunpa Market area of Ibadan.
The chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Mr Akinwande said the agency’s personnel received a distress call about the fire incident from baale Ogunpa, Nurudeen Lawal, by telephone at exactly 8:11 p.m. on Monday.
He said that firefighters were promptly deployed to the scene of the incident and, upon arrival, found 10 shops, out of several others, already engulfed in flames.
“Our officers swiftly got into action and prevented the fire from spreading to other shops and nearby properties while the Federal Fire Service also joined hands with us to extinguish the fire,” he said.
The chairman attributed the fire to the fuelling of an operating generator by one of the shop’s occupants.
He also said that no casualties were recorded during the incident and commended the officers from Iyaganku Police Headquarters for providing security.
