Ibadan man arraigned for stealing iron rods

A 52-year-old man, Mutiu Iyanda, was on Monday arraigned in the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly stealing iron rods worth N2 million.

Mr Iyanda, whose address was not provided, was charged with conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, DSP Adewale Amos, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on April 22, at about 3:00 p.m., in the Egbeda area of Ibadan.

Mr Amos alleged that the defendant stole seven tonnes of 12mm iron rods and three tonnes of 16mm iron rods worth N2 million from one Taofeek Adegun.

He said the offences contravened sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The magistrate, Maruff Mudashiru, granted the defendant N1 million bail and two reliable sureties in like sum.

Mr Mudashiru ordered that the sureties provide evidence of three years of tax clearance.

He adjourned the case until July 4 for a hearing.
