The chairman of Ikorodu Local Government Area (LGA), Wasiu Adesina, on Wednesday inaugurated the 262-metre Sanni Arowolo road at the Itunpate area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The 262-metre long by nine-metre wide road is scheduled to be completed in three months.

The adjacent Otayombo road was immediately approved for construction due to residents’ yearnings.

While inaugurating the road, the chairman said the road was long overdue, as one of the foremost roads in the local government area.

“When I came on board, I embarked on the two-side construction of drainage, but that is not enough because the road is important and long overdue.

“We looked inward to develop inner roads in order to improve businesses because people will now move freely.

“When we came here, I noticed that people were requesting for our attention on the adjacent road and immediately, I approved it for reconstruction,” he said.

Mr Adesina said his administration had embarked on a number of infrastructural developments, especially road construction.

Similarly, Agura Primary Healthcare Centre is expected to be completed in few weeks, as well as construction of an Information Communication Centre (ICT) for training across all primary schools of the LGA.

According to the chairman, all projects would be handed over to the community development committee and community development association for proper maintenance so they can last long.

Earlier, Babatunde Rotinwa, former Lagos state Head of Service (HOS), commended the chairman for bringing development closer to the people as a primary goal of his administration, in spite of scarce resources.

“I want to commend the chairman on his efforts in embarking on developmental projects in the face of scarce resources at the LG level.

“He deems it fit to manage resources to bring development closer to all the communities in the local government area,” he said.

Also speaking, Shamsondeen Longe, All Progressives Congress (APC) political leader, said it was a landmark achievement for the council to see residents’ benefiting meaningfully, rather than sharing mere palliatives.

“This road will bring total relief to residents in this community. It will curb erosion as the rainy season approaches,” he said.

Zainab Adetesi, a 68-year- old woman and resident, thanked the chairman for the road construction, saying it was the first of its kind, adding that successive governments had long forgotten them.

Bashir Alase, another resident, commended the council boss, noting that the road had never witnessed such phase of construction with asphalt, and appealed for street light, so as to curb insecurity in the area.
