India 2022: 21 Flamingos selected for Women’s World Cup

Nigeria is drawn in Group B alongside Germany, Chile and New Zealand.

Bankole Olowokere, head coach of the Flamingos, has released the final 21-player team list to represent Nigeria at the upcoming 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

It consists of three goalkeepers, eight defenders, five midfielders and five forwards.

The list is spearheaded by forward Opeyemi Ajakaiye of FC Robo, who was the highest goalscorer in the qualifying rounds with six goals and team’s captain Alvine Dah-Zossu of Osun Babes.

Goalkeepers: Faith Omilana of Naija Ratels, Linda Jiwuaku of Confluence Queens and Jessica Inyiama of Rivers Angels.

Defenders: Miracle Usani of Abia Angels, Tumininu Adeshina of Naija Ratels, Olamide Oyinlola of Naija Ratels and Comfort Folorunsho of Delta Queens, Josephine Edafe of Rivers Angles, Blessing Sunday of Edo Queens, Immaculata Offiong of Abia Angels and Alasa Attervall of IFK Goteborg.

Midfielders: Chidera Okenwa of Abia Angles, Bisola Mosaku of Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens, Blessing Emmanuel of Naija Ratels, Taiwo Afolabi of Delta Queens and Aderemi Mary Bayelsa Queens.

Forwards: Omowunmi Bello of Naija Ratels, Ajakaye Opeyemi of FC Robo, Yetunde Ayantosho of Osun Babes, Edidiong Etim of Bayelsa Queens and Alvine Dah-Zossu of Osun Babes.

Nigeria’s Flamingos is drawn in the Group B of the alongside one-time third place finishers Germany And New Zealand and South America nation of Chile.

The 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to be held from Tuesday, October 11 to Sunday, October 30 in India. It is Nigeria’s first appearance at the tournament since 2016. 

However, the Flamingos have appeared in six editions in total but have only been able to make it to the quarterfinals on three occasions.
