Indonesia to celebrate Independence Day in new capital

Indonesia celebrates its Independence Day on August 17 annually.

Indonesia’s forthcoming Independence Day will be celebrated in Nusantara, the new capital city in Kalimantan.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said on Monday that President Joko Widodo will preside over the celebration, with President-elect Prabowo Subianto in attendance.

“The accommodations are prepared. We are now making sure that the airport in Nusantara is operational by July, along with the toll road,’’ Mr Effendy said.

Additionally, celebrations will take place in Jakarta.

Indonesia celebrates its Independence Day on August 17 annually.
