Saheed Timehin, an associate professor of Middle Eastern studies at the Lagos State University, says insecurity and corruption are hindering the socio-economic stability of the country.

Mr Timehin made this known on Saturday while delivering a lecture during the 48th annual national conference of Majlis Ansarullah Ahmadiyyah Muslim Elders Association (MAAN) in Abuja.

The event’s theme is ”Making Living Worthwhile For All: Islamic Solutions to Economic and Security Challenges.”

He said the increasing crime rate is stalling economic activities.

”A secure environment creates a foundation for sustainable economic growth, attract investment, enhance productivity and foster social cohesion.

” While insecurity hampers economic progress, leading to capital plight, reduced productivity,” he said.

The don also canvased for the establishment of special courts to try corruption cases in the country.

He said corruption remains a phenomenon that requires collective efforts to address Nigeria’s economic progress.

Mr Timehin called for legal and regulatory framework reforms to enhance existing anti-corruption laws and close the loopholes.

He, therefore, advised leaders to lead by example and promote peace and security in line with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
