Insecurity: Plateau SUBEB orders immediate closure of schools

The Plateau Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has directed the immediate closure of all primary and junior secondary schools in the state.
Richard Jonah, the board’s public relations officer (PRO), disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Jos.
He explained that the decision underscored the urgent need for preventive action and to safeguard lives and property in the state.
“All Government Junior Model Secondary Schools (GJMSSs) will close effective Saturday, November 22, while Primary and Day Schools will close effective Monday, November 24,” he said.
The PRO assured parents, guardians and stakeholders that the closure was a temporary but necessary step to forestall potential security threats.
He added that the move aimed at reassuring communities that the government is prioritising the well-being of its students.
Mr Jonah said that management of the board advised all Local Government Education Authorities, school administrators and community leaders to cooperate fully with the directive and be vigilant.
