Iran executes Mossad spy, IS member

Iran on Wednesday executed two men, one on conviction of spying for Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad and the other, a member of the Islamic State (IS).
According to local media reports, the men were executed for acting against the country’s national security.
The Mossad spy, identified as Rouzbeh Vadi, and the IS “terrorist,” named Mehdi Asgharzadeh, were hanged following legal and judicial proceedings and the upholding of their death sentences by the Supreme Court of Iran.
The report said that Vadi had been working in one of the country’s “important and sensitive” organisations with a level of access “appealing” to Mossad.
Vadi was employed by a Mossad officer through “virtual space” following several preliminary assessment stages.
He provided Mossad with information about an Iranian nuclear scientist assassinated by Israel in its recent attacks against Iran.
As for the other convict, the report said Asgharzadeh had been trained by the IS terrorist group in Iraq and Syria and sought to carry out “terrorist operations” in Iran, especially at religious shrines.
Iran’s intelligence forces arrested Asgharzadeh before he was able to carry out any “terrorist operation,” said the report.
