The police and other security agents had a torrid time containing ensuing violence by mobs in different parts of the Federal Capital Territory on Monday.

Aggrieved motorcycle operators in the Gosa market area set up bonfires and damaged nearby properties after an FCT Task Force seized some motorcycles to enforce a ban in the area.

The riot caused much commotion as the police clashed with the agitators to quell their demonstrations.

In the Jikwoyi axis, a mob in a reprisal blocked the Nyanya-Karshi highway on Monday morning and attacked commuters. A Toyota Camry car was set Ablaze while other vehicles in sight were damaged.

Local sources say the police had earlier raided and destroyed a shanty in the area, otherwise known as Pantaker, in the area after a policeman on special surveillance was killed Sunday night and his gun carted away.

A detachment of soldiers and vigilante had to be called in to dislodge the miscreants from the highway, Peoples Gazette learnt.

FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh said normalcy has been restored after the security breaches.

She said monitoring and surveillance would continue at the scene while efforts were being made to arrest the miscreants responsible for the disturbance.

Ms Adeh said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Babaji Sunday, pledged the commitment of the command to bring crimes and criminality to the barest minimum
