Sheikh Yakubu Musa, a renowned Islamic scholar, has called on the Katsina government to establish a Hisbah board.

Hisbah is an Islamic doctrine on upholding community morals based on the Qur’anic injunction to enjoin good and forbid wrong. It is otherwise known as the enforcement arm of Sharia law.

Mr Musa, the state chairman of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), made the call during the launching of the State’s Action Plan (SAP) on women, peace and security in Katsina.

According to him, establishing Hisbah in Katsina will contribute to tackling societal ills, especially among women, girls and the youth.

“I am calling on the governor to assist us by ensuring that the Hisbah comes on board because they know the society and also can enter places that other security personnel can not,” said Mr Musa. “Those youths that are into drug abuse and other social vices are from the society. They are all known. Therefore, Hisbah will assist in reducing the menace.”

He added, “Those that are into the drug businesses can be fished out from society. I know about a bill before the assembly on the establishment of the board, but at the moment, I don’t know where it’s hanging.”

He appealed to Katsina’s first lady, Hadiza Masari, to ensure that the board was established before the end of Governor Aminu Masari’s tenure.

The scholar explained that the introduction of the SAP was a good initiative but advised that it should align with the teaching of Islam.
