Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has taken to Twitter to congratulate Nigerian MMA star, Isreal Adesanya, after the 33-year-old reclaimed his world middleweight title at UFC 287 on Sunday morning.

Peter Obi tweeted, “By decisively knocking out his opponent and regaining his UFC Middleweight Title last night, Israel Adesanya @stylebender proved that persistence is the path to reclamation. Congratulations valiant Champion!”

Adesanya was backed into the cage by Alex Pereira in round two before unleashing two crushing right hands and a left hook to send his longtime rival down to the canvas.

Pereira had previously beaten Adesanya twice whilst they were both kickboxers in 2016 and 2017, before beating him again in UFC 281 in November 2022.
