Host country of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Ivory Coast defeated Nigerian Super Eagles 2-1 in the finals to lift the AFCON trophy on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé.

The tournament came to a close as the Ivorians who started poorly in the group stage went on to win the trophy.

Troost-Ekong gave Nigeria the lead in the 39th minute with a solid header seeing Ivory Coast go into the first half break behind the Eagles.

The Ivorians returned into the second half much stronger, pushing hard to get an equaliser.

After much pushing, Kessie equalised for the Ivorians, cancelling out Nigeria’s lead.

Sabastine Haller made it two for the host country in the 83rd minute, dashing Nigeria’s dream of a fourth AFCON title.
