The Jigawa Environmental Protection Agency has embarked on a five-day fumigation against mosquitoes in three Local Government Areas of the state.

The Managing-Director, JISSEPA, Adamu Sabo, said this during an interview on Thursday in Dutse.

Mr Sabo said that the exercise which started on Monday was being conducted in Kazaure, Gwiwa, Roni and Yankwaahi LGAs of the state.

He said that the fumigation was aimed at eliminating mosquitoes to prevent the spread of malaria.
He added that the action also to ensure a clean and healthy environment, devoid of mosquitoes as well as ensure healthy living for residents of the state.

Mr Sabo advised residents to imbibe the culture of cleanliness by ensuring a clean environment, free from stagnant water.

“Hospitals, schools, waterways, other institutions, as well as suspected breeding places for mosquitoes have been targeted for the fumigation in order to reduce their population,’’ he said.

He said that keeping the environment devoid of stagnant water would help to eliminate contact with the vector that is responsible for carrying malaria parasites.

“So, it is important for people to understand that environmental protection is a duty for all, not the government alone, therefore, communities must ensure that their environment is free of any dirt and stagnant water that could serve as breeding sites for mosquitoes.

“That is why we advised people, particularly rural dwellers, to imbibe the culture of keeping a healthy and clean environment to avoid unnecessary infections as a result of a dirty environment,” he said.

Mr Sabo advised residents to always improve on their personal hygiene, assuring that the agency would continue to ensure that residents live in a good and healthy environment.
