Jigawa state local government service commission (LGSC) has commenced the payment of N18 million in-service allowances to 150 local government workers studying in tertiary institutions across the country.

The chairman of the commission, DIG Uba Bala (rtd.), made this known at the commencement of the exercise on Friday in Dutse.

Mr Bala said that the amount would be paid to both fresh and continuing students (staff) drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state.

He said that the recipients included 59 from Jigawa North Central, 40 from North West, 32 from North East and 19 others who were on special in-service studies at Bayero University, Kano.

The chairman assured the people of the commission’s commitment to continue to sponsor local government staff members to further their education and acquire higher educational qualifications for more efficient service delivery, particularly at the grassroots.

According to him, the state government, in collaboration with the commission, will continue to ensure the well-being of the local government workers through promotion and educational sponsorship in order to motivate them to give their best.

Mr Bala, who urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by being committed to their duty, commended the state government for its support to the commission.

Some of the beneficiaries, Jamila Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah, thanked the commission and government for the payment and promised to make good use of it.
