The Jigawa state government has proposed N44.7 billion 2023 supplementary budget to finance critical infrastructures and social services in the state.

The state commissioner of budget and economic planing, Babangida Umar, stated this during a news conference at the end of the state executive council (SEC) meeting in Dutse on Wednesday.

He said the supplementary budget was necessitated by the need to complete some of the inherited projects and the increase in federal allocation to the state sequel to the fuel subsidy removal.

“Following the fuel subsidy removal, the state has received the sum of N7 billion as first tranch from Federal Government and N21 billion special grant for infrastructure approved to each of the 36 states and Abuja,” Mr Umar said.

He listed some of the sectors to be financed from the supplementary budget to include ministry of works and transport N13.8 billion and ministry of health got N2 billion.

While the sum of N3 billion has been allocated to the ministry of education; ministry of finance N2.4 billion, and the Jigawa state road maintainance agency (JIRMA) N2 billion.

He said the supplementary budget would be sent to the state House of Assembly for approval.

According to him, this is the second supplementary budget for the state within a span of five months, with N13 billion earlier approved in March, appropriated to fund the repairs of damaged drains, roads, bridges and other essential services across the state.

Also, the commissioner of information, youth sport and culture, Sagiru Musa, said the council had approved over N192 million for the extension of drains in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of the state.
