Joachim Löw set to quit German national team

Germany national team coach Joachim Löw will retire as manager after the Euro 2020 tournament.

Löw, 61, took over as coach of Germany national team 2006, leading the German side to a World Cup victory in 2014.

German Football Association in a statement on Tuesday confirmed that Löw , who has been in charge as manager of the Germany national team in the last 15 years, will retire after Euro 2020.

“Joachim #Löw will step down as national team head coach after @EURO2020′, the statement reads. “The national coach asked to end his contract, which was originally set to run until the 2022 World Cup, immediately after the conclusion of the European Championship tournament, a decision which was agreed to by the German Football Association (DFB)”.

Euro 2020 which was earlier scheduled to hold in March 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak.

The tournament will now be held between June 11 and July 11, 2021 with games being played across 12 host cities. This is happening for the first time in the 60-year of the competition.

Löw will lead the German team to face France, Portugal and Hungary in Group F of the Euro 2020.
