A Jos magistrates’ court on Friday sentenced Esau Garba, a 38-year-old trader, to six months imprisonment for trespassing and stealing iron doors and window frames from a church.

The convict pleaded guilty to trespass and theft.

Magistrate Tapmwa Gotep, after listening to Garba’s guilty plea, summarily sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option of N20,000.

He said the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those wanting to indulge in such illegal acts.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Daniel Longwal, told the court that the case was reported on February 17 at the Anglo-Jos Police station by one Nicodemus Diche, the complainant.

Mr Longwal said the convict trespassed into the church, stole two iron doors and one window valued at N100,000, and parked them inside a tricycle before they were caught.

He said the convict committed the offence punishable under the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law.
